Bodegas Manzanos Haro is the oldest winery in the city of Haro. It dates back to 1801. It now comprises the building of Bodegas Berceo and the Palacio de Tejada, a palace of 1733 that is located just 50 metres away from Plaza de la Paz, the main square in Haro. There are five buildings in between these two that are in ruins and will be demolished in order to build our proyects for 2021-2022.
They complete the group of buildings that is Bodegas Manzanos Haro. Right now we are adapting our facilities to not only improve the enoturistic experience of the visitor but also the quality and delicacy of the wines that are sealed by Manzanos. Bodegas Manzanos Haro will occupy the block between Palacio de Tejada and Bodegas Berceo with the buildings and caves that they own.
On the one hand, this winery owes its name to a 13th century monk and poet who lived in the Monastery of Suso, La Rioja, called Gonzalo de Berceo. This was who, in a time when only the Arabic and Basque language was spoken in the area, and Latin was the only language considered cult, dared to write the first verses in Castilian taking the wine as the main theme.
The concept of Bordeaux was articulated in five levels, so that all the processing was done by gravity avoiding the use of pumping and mechanical extraction that causes the wine to be altered and violent. The cellars of the winery are located in what were the old galleries of the Castle of Haro, dating from the Middle Ages.
Nowadays, the management of the wineries is in charge of the fifth generation of the Fernández de Manzanos family, led by Víctor Fernández de Manzanos, who continue to work with the Gurpegui Muga family to perpetuate the legacy received.
