The 10th China National Sommelier Competition was held successfully on August 11th 2018 at Shanghai Garden Hotel. Felix ZHANG from Hakkasan Shanghai won the first award.
China National Sommelier Competition was established by Tommy Lam in year 2009. Aim to improve the professional knowledge and service level of Chinese sommeliers, encourage more young service people to join the sommelier team, enlarge the popularity and influence constantly of sommelier group as well. The members of this year’s jury group were: Brian Julyan MS, Matt Wilkins MS, Ronan Sayburn MS, Darius Allyn MS, John Hung, David Sun, Rob Hirst, Jacky Tang, Eric Aracil, Sally Zhang, David Lucas, Qingquan YU, Miguel Roquette, Eric LU.
After the semifinal on 11th morning, Felix ZHANG, Jasper SUN and King WANG were the first three of the competition according to the comprehensive behavior and score. In the final, they still need to finish some examinations: mix wine according to the question, correct the wine list, wine service, blind tasting, answer the question according to the picture and pour sparkling wine averagely. Finally, Felix Zhang won the champion at last.
As a grand sponsor of the competition, D.O.Ca Rioja wine R.Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Reserva 2005 were used for the wine service examination. The candidates need to answer the questions of the grape, region, winery etc.
