Rioja 2024 Vintage Officially Rated “Good”: A Testament to Quality and Market Strength

The Consejo Regulador de la Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja has officially rated the 2024 vintage as “Good” (Buena), following a comprehensive evaluation of grape quality and the overall winemaking potential of the year.

This recognition reinforces Rioja’s continued commitment to excellence, even amid a globally challenging environment for wine consumption. Rioja once again confirms its leadership in the Spanish market, holding a 26.8% share by volume and 30.44% by value. Of particular note is the sustained growth in key categories, with white wine sales up by 1.9% and Reserva wines increasing by 7%, highlighting consumer confidence in the region’s diversity and quality.

From a global perspective, Rioja continues to strengthen its international presence. In 2024, the region recorded a 0.63% overall sales increase, exceeding 240 million litres sold. Exports played a pivotal role, climbing by 4.42% to nearly 98.82 million litres, with Rioja wines reaching consumers in 135 countries. The United Kingdom and the United States led this growth, with increases of 12% and 17% respectively, underscoring Rioja’s enduring appeal in key strategic markets. While some regions such as Germany and Ireland experienced a slowdown, Rioja’s global footprint remains robust.

In summary, the 2024 vintage reaffirms Rioja’s enduring strength as a benchmark appellation. With a solid harvest and rising global demand, Rioja continues to set the standard for quality, heritage, and international prestige.
