The 2018 Report of the Regulatory Board offers an overview of the evolution of Rioja

2018 Report

Despite the difficulties posed by the evolution of the markets during 2018, as it reflects the balance sheet presented by the Annual Report published by the Regulatory Board, its chairman, Fernando Salamero, does not hesitate to assess with optimism the exercise and to affirm that “the great protagonists are, again, the 14,800 grape growers and the 600 wineries that have shown their great professionalism making it possible for Rioja wines to be present in more than 130 countries around the world”.

2018 will be remembered as a complicated year, marked by meteorological uncertainties and the regression of the annual marketing, which didn´t modify the equilibrium situation in the sector.

“This year we have taken a step forward by being pioneers in leading advances in quality assurance and we have done so by recovering the figure of the voluntary qualitative stock, an original system that operates at an individual, collective and qualitative level”.

“I feel optimistic and I trust in the maturity of the sector. This will be a key year to continue working hard to recover the markets and move forward with the goal of increasing the value of our wines inside and outside our borders”.

Edited with the objective of offering complete information on the status of the Denomination and on the activities carried out by the Regulatory Board itself, this 80-page publication describes in its first part the structure and operation of the management and control that are developed in the entity, presents a summary of the most important agreements adopted by the Plenary and details about how the economic resources with which the Board is financed are applied.

The description of the activities of the Administrative Services, the legal advice and the Department of Control in the matter of quality supervision, origin and aging of the wines, as well as the summary of the promotional activities developed by the Regulatory Board throughout the year and its institutional activity.

The content is completed with the qualification and the statistical balance of production and elaboration of the 2018 harvest, as well as the most significant data of vineyards, wineries, commercialization, etc., all of which provide a general overview of the evolution of the DOCa Rioja in the last year and its current situation, information that makes up a very useful compendium as a reference work, available in PDF format on the official website of the Board.
