Therefore, the term of Fernando Ezquerro concludes, who has held the position for the last four years and whose presidency has been marked by notable advances in sustainability, a focus on national and international promotion, as well as the drive for strategic initiatives aimed at balancing the sector and wine tourism. Ezquerro becomes the first vice president of the OIPVR, which is also completed with Begoña Jiménez Díaz (ABC) as the second vice president, Alejandro Las Heras Pérez (ARAG-ASAJA) as secretary, and Javier Ruiz de Galarreta San Vicente (ARAEX) as treasurer.
The appointment of Raquel Pérez Cuevas coincides with a significant year for DOCa Rioja, which in 2025 celebrates its Centennial, thereby reaffirming its position as the first Designation of Origin in Spain and one of the most prestigious internationally. Pérez Cuevas added: “It is important for me to be able to continue counting on all of you in this new stage, where I would like to see dialogue, involvement, debate, unity—which is not the same as uniformity—loyalty to the Denomination that has made us who we are, and the best of your intentions so that Rioja continues to occupy the place it deserves in the world of wine.”
In her speech, the new president also highlighted the importance of the Qualified Designation of Origin Rioja for the region and for the Spanish wine sector as a whole, as well as for the Spain Brand, and she thanked the former presidents Fernando Ezquerro and Fernando Salamero and her colleagues in the sector for the trust placed in her. “Our work starts today.” “We have exciting years ahead of us, and one of the most beautiful and solid projects in the world of wine,” concluded Pérez Cuevas.
