Rioja Ripening Bulletin No. 5 – Harvest of Outstanding Quality

The fifth Ripening Bulletin issued by the D.O.Ca Rioja for the 2025 harvest reports that the ripening process in Rioja Oriental is already well advanced.

According to the bulletin, the evolution of berry weight compared with last week has been minimal, particularly for Tempranillo, where a stabilization of berry weight has been confirmed.

Similarly, potential alcohol has progressed within a normal range, albeit at a slightly slower pace, while the decrease in acidity has been moderate. The evolution of pH remains stable at values comparable to the previous week.

The bulletin further notes that phenolic ripening indicators are showing very positive development, pointing toward a harvest of excellent quality should this trend continue.

Vineyard health remains highly satisfactory. As stated in the document, the prevailing weather conditions so far have been very favorable for the ripening process.

The Technical Services of the Council emphasize, however, that short-term weather forecasts indicate rainfall and very high maximum temperatures for the current phase of the growth cycle. This makes it necessary to maintain closer monitoring of the vineyards to assess potential impacts on ripening parameters and the evolution of grape skins.
