The best histories are always those we share; ours began over 125 years ago and has been written day by day by five generations of the same family. All have contributed their passion, their ideas and their personality to create what Bodegas Valdemar is today.

Each of them have transmitted to the others their values and a way of understanding wine.

Always with a focus on the land, the grapevine and on local varieties. Pursuing differentiation from the personality of the estate, always working with our own vineyards, not only at Rioja Alavesa, but also at Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja.

Our vineyards, as well as the wines coming from them, reflect Valdemar personality. Single plots, such as Las Seis Alhajas or Las Canteras, prestigious vineyards, such as the Finca Alto Cantabria, or one of the most important of all of Rioja, Finca del Marquesado.

Wine is a universal language, but there are thousands ways to speak it. Thus all our wines express our personality, but each of them does it with its own accent.

Conde Valdemar

It was born with the spirit of joining tradition and innovation, creating, amongst others, the first white wine fermented in barrels, Conde Valdemar Finca Alto Cantabria, one of the best 100 wines of the world in 2013 for Wine Spectator. Today it is a world-renowned winery for the elegance and longevity of its Grand Reserves and for its collection of Great Vintages.

It is a commitment to working in microplots, searching for the maximum expression of local Rioja grapes. Devoting the necessary time to the research and care of each variety, recovering those set aside for their complexity, to create modern wines, differentiated from each other.

Finca del Marquesado

It is a symbol of our commitment to the selection of unique vineyards. A dream of the third generation that discovered this unique estate. The work and dedication of the next two generations have turned into reality what Finca del Marquesado is today: a stunning estate of over 35 years, origin of a personal wine, as unique as the estate.
