– With the addition of these new members, Rioja now has 182 official educators from 33 different countries providing guidance to thousands of people around the world.
– The program is part of the Rioja Wine Academy, a training program launched by the Management Council of the Rioja region, with more than 20,000 people enrolled.
Last month, the most recent edition of the “Official Wine Lecturers of Rioja Worldwide” event was just concluded, and 39 new certified Rioja wine lecturers were recognized after successfully completing the theoretical and practical parts of the course.
The new official lecturer explores first-hand the chateaux and vineyards of Rioja through this comprehensive programme. During the event, which involved more than 60 wineries, the new Rioja lecturers tasted more than 140 wines divided into 12 thematic tastings, during which 10 wineries and vineyards were visited.
The program was conducted twice, once for 18 participants from the prestigious Wine Scholar Guild and once for 21 other wine experts and enthusiasts. This year’s selected lecturers are highly qualified, including wine training and promotion professionals from all over the world, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, Canada, Brazil and Spain.
Rick Fisher, Director of the Wine Scholar Guild, said: “Partnering with Rioja Wine Academy is very attractive. Our educators will benefit from the wealth of experience gained in the program. The training, exchanges and tastings will help them to communicate their knowledge more deeply and with more experience in the course of the Spanish Wine Scholars Program and in the professional course on Rioja. Rioja now has another group of highly committed brand ambassadors who are passionate about sharing Rioja’s excellence and diversity in their respective countries.”
One of the participants, Christopher Martin, Director of Education and Training programs at WSET, said: “The journey of Rioja Wine Academy has been remarkable. It revealed the diversity of Rioja styles and producers, and this unique experience gave me a richer and more systematic understanding of Rioja.”
