Rioja Launches its Centenary with a Rich Program of Activities for 2025

Spain’s Rioja wine region is celebrating its centenary with a year-long program of events in 2025.

As Spain’s first Denomination of Origin (DOCa), Rioja successfully kicked off its centenary celebration at the Barcelona Wine Week and the Goya Awards ceremony. The celebration includes nearly 30 global events, meetings, and special activities across countries like the UK, China, Switzerland, Mexico, Germany, and the US. With a total budget of €1 million, key events include the anniversary of the creation of the Rioja Denomination of Origin on June 6, an international summit in autumn, and a celebration for celebrities in Madrid at year-end.

In 2024, Rioja saw a 0.63% increase in wine sales volume, reaching 240 million liters, accounting for 30% of Spain’s quality wine sales and 40% of export revenue. Fernando Ezquerro, President of the Consejo Regulador de la DOCa Rioja, said, “As Spain’s first and most popular Denomination of Origin, we look forward to inspiring wine enthusiasts worldwide through our year-long events.” The centenary celebration will run until the end of 2025, highlighting Rioja’s core spirit through its rich wine culture.
