IMAZ Gran Reserva 2019, produced by El Coto de Rioja, has been selected as the official Centennial Commemorative Wine of Rioja after standing out among more than 101 entries. The selection process was organized by the Regulatory Council of the DOCa Rioja through a professional blind tasting.

 

This wine will be released in a limited edition of 500 bottles, exclusively intended as a commemorative gift for guests attending key centennial events, including the official celebration.

 

 

In addition, the eight institutional wines selected earlier this week by the plenary session of the Regulatory Council will also be featured throughout the year at all official events and presentations. Each of them will bear a specially designed label to mark the 100th anniversary of Rioja.

 

The judging panel, led by Pablo Franco, Technical Director of the Regulatory Council, placed particular emphasis on the wine’s balance of tradition and modernity—a blend that captures the essence of Rioja’s winemaking heritage while embracing its evolution.

 

The wine is sourced from a particular parcel within a vineyard, offering rich fruit expression, depth, and intensity, while also retaining the complexity and elegance that define a classic Rioja Gran Reserva.

 

Full-bodied yet silky on the palate, the wine displays outstanding aging potential. It was crafted with the intention of evolving beautifully over time, making it an ideal collector’s item that many wine lovers will choose to preserve.

 

Made from 100% Tempranillo, it shows a deep ruby hue and intense aromatic profile. The winery describes it as an “elegant, refined, and contemporary red wine.”

 

Thanks to a meticulous winemaking and aging process, it achieves a harmonious balance between fruit expression and terroir. The wine spends a minimum of 36 months in bottle, allowing it to develop its hallmark complexity, finesse, and elegance.

 

 

The commemorative wine will feature a distinctive, specially designed label, visually highlighting Rioja’s centennial and paying tribute to its status as Spain’s first Denominación de Origen.
