The Regulatory Board of DOCa Rioja has released the Rioja Wine Educator Program for 2019, which is committed to establish an international network of Rioja professional educators. In the past three years, Rioja educator team in China has gradually expanded and now it consists of 17 certified educators.

Introduction

Make people passionate about Rioja!

Through theoretical study and practical tasting, the candidates can get a deeper understanding of Rioja wine-related knowledge, also history and culture of the region. When the candidate successfully become the certified educator of Rioja, he/she will be able to promote Rioja in the Chinese market and become the brand ambassador of Rioja.

• Teaching consumers and wine professionals to deliver neutral, complete and relevant Rioja knowledge
• Help consumers and wine professionals to understand the iconic characteristics of Rioja wines
• Design, manage and evaluate Rioja wine courses

 

Schedule

Rioja Wine Educator Program will consist of online theoretical knowledge study and test, as well as practical study in the Rioja region. First, candidates who pass the election need to take an online course (Spanish/English) and then take a theoretical test. After that, the candidates who pass the online test will complete the final course in Rioja, including more detailed knowledge about Rioja and its wines, as well as the Rioja wine teaching techniques.

 

Educator’s rights & interests

Once officially certified, the educator will be awarded the Rioja Educator Qualification Certificate. The official educators will be authorized to sell Rioja courses on their own, or through the Rioja Regulatory Board, Rioja Wineries, or the importers. The official educators can issue a Rioja Course Completion Certificate provided by the Rioja Regulatory Board.

* The official educator’s qualification is valid for a maximum of 4 years. The extension depends on how the specific educators fulfill their obligations , such as how many Rioja classes they have conducted.

 

Educator qualifications

The Rioja instructor candidate must meet the following conditions:

• Wine professional with at least 2 years of experience in wine industry (wine education, marketing, sommelier or wine merchandising), who has a certain impact in the local Chinese market.
• Good Chinese communication skills.
• Good English oral expression and writing skills.
