Limited production of 10,000 bottles of 100% tempranillo wine from our vineyard Ponzabala, located around 550m above sea level. The wine has been produced in a handcrafted and traditional way, with indigenous yeasts and manual “pumping” (wine circulation over the mass of skins). Exceptionally in Bodega Akutain, we decided not to age this wine in barrics and we opted to follow its feelings of “youth”, although it could have served perfectly for a long aging process. This decision is supported by a great balance in alcohol and acidity, and very low parameters of volatile acidity that encourage conservation and development of the wine in the bottle, which will lead to feelings of ripe and stewed red fruit. Wine stabilization was carried out in deposit during the winter of La Rioja, showing very good values. In conclusion, it is a very balanced wine, appealing and “summery” with a long way ahead for being a young wine without barrel aging (although not a wine for aging in the cellar: the ideal time to drink it is now), in a 2015’s harvest that was considered by D.O Ca. Rioja as Very Good. Akutain Cosecha 2015 pairs well with most first courses and even with soft meats. We recommend opening the bottle 30 minutes before consumption for oxygenation. The wine shows a red / maroon color, with blue and violet dyes, presenting a very good brilliance and a persistent, consistent and heavy tear. A beautiful optical polychromy, with shades that give an air of youth. In the nose, an exaggerated intensity of aromas of wild strawberries, red berries of mountain and wild violets appear. As the wine oxygenates, more compote sensations with traces of melted sugar appear. When we proceed to drink the wine its attack is velvety, fresh and frank, giving way to a long and very glyceric plateau ending in a fragrance of acid red fruits with a floral persistence in the background. Finally, the wine has a pleasant and intense aftertaste, with a feeling of being salivating calling to seek another entry.
