Rioja wine increases its market share in the total world trade of bottled wine

According to data from customs in different countries, compiled by the Spanish Observatory of Wine Markets, in 2020 D.O.Ca. Rioja increased its global market share in 0.2 percentage points: Rioja, with a total of EUR 506.9 Million, now represents 2.4% of the total value of the world’s trade of bottled still wines.

The global market decreased -5.7% last year, and now has a total value of EUR 20,815.5 Million.

Rioja, Spain’s leader and one of the world’s Top wine regions, has a global market share bigger than whole countries like South Africa (1.8%) and is not far from that of other whole countries like Argentina (2.8%) or Germany (3.4%), which is indeed impressive for one single Designation of Origin.
