Akutain Reserva 2012

Bodega Akutain

To make the Akutain Reserva 2012 we made a choice between our barrels of that vintage to produce about 8,000 bottles of a loyal wine to Bodega Akutain’s style: classic Rioja Reserva, slow ageing, coming entirely from our vineyards in Rioja Alta, with a long life ahead and able to be aged in the cellar and see how it evolves … The vintage 2012 was rated as very good by the DOCa. Rioja and in this case, we decided to give this wine an ageing of 662 days in American and French oak barrics to present a Reserva wine with a lot of character and a long life expectancy in the bottle, where over time will appear tertiary aromas that will give much satisfaction. Akutain Reserva 2012 is an ideal wine to be paired with red meat. The first thing we see in this wine is its color (taking in account that 2012 was not exactly a vintage with much color in Rioja) and its ruby red tone with certain ocher nuances. Following, an excellent brightness with a high layer is highlighted. As soon as we move the wine a very persistent and homogeneous tear appears, giving a silky impression. When we smell the wine, we first appreciate its fruity aromas with outstanding impregnations of spices like cloves and black pepper. Then as we oxygenate it, caramelized balsamic aromas appear, perceiving notes of well assembled vanilla and coffee when we deepen. Huge elegance and complexity in a wine with a high intensity, symptom of an ageing in high quality oaks. Akutain Reserva 2012 enters in the mouth in a soft and balsamic way, but appears frank and elegant as it passes, giving feelings of strength and majesty. In the end a long aftertaste with a sense of volume remains, wrapped from the beginning in sweet and velvety roasted touches.
