Rioja describes its 2022 harvest as “Very Good”

  • Analytically, the DOCa Rioja wines from the 2022 vintage present excellent values; and the sensory assessment is very positive.
  • The qualification comes from the evaluation of 5,102 samples in blind tasting, which means issuing more than 25,500 sensory evaluations.
  • A highlight is the high potential displayed by the wines for aging of this vintage. Their follow-up and re-evaluation when they go out to the market will offer outstanding results.

The DOCa Rioja Regulatory Council has qualified the 2022 vintage as “Very Good”. This assessment has been ratified after an exhaustive and rigorous process of analysis of a total of 5,102 samples.

Each of the wine samples is tasted by 5 judges from the tasting panel of 120 professionals, which means issuing more than 25,500 sensory evaluations.

The harvest of this campaign has stood out for its early start (August 10) and for its long duration of 88 days.

The sensory evaluation of the wines is very positive. The reds stand out for the good intensity of their color and an adequate aromatic profile, highlighting the range of black fruit, and they are surprisingly fresh. In the mouth, their high polyphenolic content stands out, which gives them a relevant oenological potential supported by fine and intense tannins, which means, although not in a general way, that these wines can be aged well. In short, they are balanced wines, with a good degree of maturation and adequate structure. For their part, both whites and rosés are evolving adequately: they are wines with a correct aromatic definition and a surprising freshness that makes them very harmonious.
